TSS visa to PR
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) is a temporary visa, which means it does not directly lead to permanent residency (PR) in Australia. However, holders of the TSS visa may be eligible to apply for permanent residency
through other pathways, such as employer-sponsored or skilled migration programs. Here are some common pathways from the TSS visa to permanent residency:
- Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186): This pathway allows TSS visa holders to transition to permanent residency if their employer is willing to sponsor them for permanent residency under the Employer
Nomination Scheme (ENS). There are two streams under the ENS visa: the Temporary Residence Transition stream and the Direct Entry stream. TSS visa holders may be eligible for either stream depending on their circumstances.
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187): Similar to the ENS visa, the RSMS visa allows TSS visa holders to transition to permanent residency if they are sponsored by an employer in a regional
area of Australia. The RSMS visa has two streams: the Temporary Residence Transition stream and the Direct Entry stream.
- Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189): TSS visa holders may also be eligible to apply for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) if they meet the eligibility criteria, including having an occupation on the Medium
and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and meeting the points requirement based on factors such as age, English language proficiency, and work experience.
- State or Territory Nominated Skilled Visas: Some Australian states and territories offer nomination programs for skilled migrants, allowing them to apply for permanent residency through state or territory nomination.
TSS visa holders may be eligible for these visas if their occupation is in demand in a particular state or territory and they meet the eligibility criteria.
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491): TSS visa holders may be eligible to apply for the Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) if they have lived and worked in a regional area of Australia
for a certain period of time. This visa pathway allows skilled migrants to live and work in designated regional areas for up to five years before applying for permanent residency.
It's important to note that each permanent residency pathway has its own eligibility criteria and requirements, and the options available to TSS visa holders may vary depending on individual circumstances. It's advisable to seek advice
from a registered migration agent or consult the Department of Home Affairs website for the most up-to-date information on permanent residency pathways from the TSS visa.
